Ascha Drake has been teaching art to elementary students for over ten years; continuously being amazed by how a teacher has the tools to ignite the imagination, and the power to open the eyes of others.  Having received her BA in Studio Art and Art Education at Skidmore College in 1995, she went on to Cranbrook Acadmey of Art, graduating in 1997 with an MFA in printmaking.  She now works with two programs teaching art in New York City public schools; The Guggenheim’s Learning Through Art program and Studio in a School.  She lives and paints in Brooklyn, New York. Her paintings encourage the viewer to recognize the discarded and the decaying, as the pieces are inspired by the simple crackled spray-painted line on concrete, or the fragments of weathered ads on the side of a building, or the raw beauty of a rusted beam.
